With its operating system update to iOS 14, Apple has introduced several new possibilities and functions. One of them is being able to customise your iPhone home screen. We’ll show you how to create new widgets and change app icons. iPhone users have downloaded the update to iOS 14 since fall 2020.
Apple had already announced that the new operating system should make “everything even more helpful and personal. ” Because new widgets now give us more information at a glance. And not only that: In a recent app library, apps are automatically organised into a user-friendly view. A picture-in-picture function lets us continue watching videos to use another app simultaneously.
IOS 14: How To Customise Your iPhone Home Screen
iOS 14 offers users a lot of freedom in design. However, not everyone thinks of customising the iPhone home screen right away – especially not without a reason or instructions that have value. We want to give you at least one handicraft guide in this article because it can be a lot of fun to design the iPhone home screen according to your wishes.
Let’s start with the widgets. They let you see up-to-date, more detailed information from your favourite apps at a glance. For example, if you create a device for the Weather app, you can see the weather forecast for the next few hours on your iPhone home screen.
How To Create A Widget For Your iPhone Home Screen
To create a widget, press and hold an empty area on your home screen until the apps start shaking. Then tap the “Add” field in the top left and select a widget. You have the choice between three different sizes. Once you’ve made your choice, tap “Done,” and your device will appear on your screen. You can turn apps into widgets on your Home screen or play with instruments in Today view by swiping right from the Home screen or Lock screen.
In the Today view, press and hold an empty area or widget again until the apps start to shake. Tap “Add” in the top left and scroll down to select a device in one of three sizes. Now tap Add Widget and then tap Done to update everything. Apple also shows you how to edit your widgets and create brilliant stacks in a detailed guide. To get even more out of your iPhone screen, you can also download the currently top-rated app Widget Smith. It allows you to build your widgets yourself. We will explain precisely how this works in a separate article.
Customise Your iPhone Home Screen: How To Change Your App Icons
In addition to the widgets, there is another way to customise your home screen. Namely, you can change your app icons. To do this, you first look for an alternative icon for your desired app – for example, on Pinterest. Of course, you can also design your icon. Just make sure the image is square and has a resolution of at least 300 x 300 pixels. When you have found or designed your new icon, save it as an image in your iPhone photo album. Then open the Shortcuts app and tap the + icon in the top right: Click Add Action and select Scripts from the top categories.
There you click under “Apps” on the function “Open app” and then select “Select. ” You should now see a list of all available apps. Find the app whose icon you want to change and tap on it. Then click “Next” in the top right corner. Now enter the name for the shortcut to find it later in the app. You complete the process by clicking on “Done. ” Now tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the shortcut and then again on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen.
Now go back to the iPhone home screen and tap on the shortcut icon under the “Home screen name and icon” section and then click on “Select Photo.” Now select your desired app icon from your photo album and crop it. You can also change the icon title to the right of the hero. Finally, click on “Add.” The shortcut will now appear with your new icon on the home screen. The shortcut app will first open to execute the shortcut behind the icon when you tap on the icon. Your selected app will then open normally.
